UNOC-3 in Nice: a global commitment to the Ocean

From 9 to 13 June 2025, the city of Nice hosted the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC-3).
This international event, co-organized by France and Costa Rica, brought together heads of state, scientists, NGOs, businesses and committed stakeholders to work collectively towards the protection and sustainable use of the oceans.

A key gathering for changemakers

The United Nations Ocean Conference is a pivotal moment to strengthen international cooperation around the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources. With plastic pollution, overfishing and climate change, the oceans are under unprecedented pressure. UNOC-3 helped mobilize innovative solutions and strengthen the commitments of governments, businesses and civil society.

Concrete projects to raise awareness, understand and take action

The presence of KRESK 4 OCEANS in Nice is part of the ongoing commitment to a sustainable and protected ocean. Through initiatives such as La Course Bleue and Blue Exploration, KRESK 4 OCEANS helps raise awareness among younger generations and highlight concrete solutions to protect marine biodiversity. Our participation in UNOC-3 strengthened this momentum by building bridges between international stakeholders and supporting innovation- and cooperation-driven approaches.

Launch of the International Platform for Ocean Sustainability

UNOC-3 was also marked by the launch of IPOS. The International Platform for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS) is an innovative, demand-driven global platform. It operates at national and regional levels to help States and groups of States accelerate the implementation of their international ocean-related commitments.

IPOS positions itself as a science–policy interface. Its mission is to mobilize scientific knowledge, Indigenous knowledge and field-based innovations to inform public decision-making and provide concrete responses to the major ocean challenges of the 21st century.

IPOS has adopted a phased approach to test and adapt its services, methodologies and the features of its proposed governance structures. The 24-month pilot phase, starting in September 2025, will make it possible to refine IPOS services across several pilot regions worldwide.

Protecting the Ocean: a universal message

The presence of KRESK 4 OCEANS at UNOC-3 reflects a strong commitment to act alongside the international community to preserve the oceans. Nice 2025 marks an important milestone, but above all a collective call to action: protecting the Ocean means protecting our future.
