Call for projects Pure Ocean: supporting research for the ocean

A fund dedicated to innovation for the sea

Created in 2017 in Marseille, the Pure Ocean endowment fund supports innovative applied research projects each year that promote the protection of marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Its goal is clear: to accelerate knowledge and action to preserve the ocean by funding high-impact scientific initiatives.

Microplastics in the ocean

The major challenges facing Pure Ocean

Each call for proposals for projects is structured around four main themes, inspired by the Decade of the United Nations for ocean science:

  • Understanding and combating marine pollution at its source, particularly plastic and chemical pollution.
  • Protect biodiversity and restore degraded marine ecosystems.
  • Strengthen resilience to climate change, with concrete adaptation solutions.
  • Improve knowledge of the ocean system through innovative technologies and interdisciplinary approaches.

In 2026, the focus will be placed on priority themes such as alternatives to petroleum-based plastics, the use of space technologies to combat illegal fishing, and the study of deep-sea biodiversity.

Concrete support for marine research

Selected projects benefit from funding of up to €40,000 per year, renewable for two years, as well as visibility and support from Pure Ocean’s international scientific committee. The evaluation is based primarily on impact: tangible benefits for the ocean, technological or social innovation, territorial anchoring, and capacity to mobilize resources. local roots, and the ability to mobilize a wide range of stakeholders.

KRESK 4 OCEANS working alongside Pure Ocean

As a committed partner and stakeholder, KRESK 4 OCEANS supports the work of Pure Ocean to develop scientific solutions. Pure Ocean’s efforts to develop concrete scientific solutions to ocean emergencies. Together, we work to ensure that applied research helps protect marine biodiversity and build a sustainable future.
